BIOGRAPHY & CURRENT

Wayne Hoover is originally from the culturally rich city of Bartlesville, located in the Northeastern region of Oklahoma . Wayne began playing trumpet at 12 years of age starting in the 6th-12th band program just as many American musicians. In his short career, Wayne has had the opportunity to play with some of today's hottest players including Barbara Laronga, Gordon Goodwin, Tia Fuller, and Mike Rocha. Though fairly new to combo work, Wayne immediately fell in love with the idea of playing with friends and getting to perform intimately alongside his peers. Due to this new found enjoyment, Wayne formed the group Those Cats From Out West, in collaboration with Londin Hine, Jack Morgan, Kendrick Brown, Conlan Boatman, and Daniel Mellerson. Those Cats From Out West are currently enjoying a busy schedule of performances throughout the greater Weatherford area.

Though much of his current resume includes jazz, Wayne mainly enjoys playing more traditional trumpet repertoire. While still in attendance at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Mr. Hoover has played for Matilda Lloyd, Chris Smith, Mary Elizabeth Bowden, and Raquel Samayoa. Much of Wayne’s private studies are focused on orchestral trumpet and solo repertoire.

When asked what he loves most about music, Wayne’s response was “the opportunity to bring trumpet to the forefront of social music inspires me. I take great pride in my audience’s enjoyment of what they hear and at the end of the day, that’s what music is for, the audience.” Wayne believes his preparation and that of his students should be always focused on creating the best possible music product to always satisfy an audience.

Wayne Hoover is currently the sitting principle in the SWOSU wind symphony, lead trumpet for SWOSU Jazz ensemble A, an active member of Those Cats From Out West, an active member of the SWOSU trumpet studio, and an in demand private lessons instructor and teacher in Western Oklahoma. Wayne has previously held positions with the Bartlesville First Baptist Church Orchestra, Mariachi Orgullo De America, as well as being a current member of  Those Cats From Out West.  Mr. Hoover had also spent two summers interning with the OKM Music festival Held in Bartlesville, OK. Wayne Hoover’s future professional goals include the creation of a private studio of trumpet students, traditional trumpet repertoire soloist, an orchestral musician, and any other new projects to help further his capabilities on the trumpet. Wayne’s teachers include Brandt Jenson, Richard Tirk, and mentor Alex Claussen.
